Biography / CHRIS STAIN

Chris Stain is a Baltimore raised, Queens based stencil artist. He is best known for adapting his art from photographs. The work of this American social-realist conveys great depth regardless of the technique he uses. Stain‘s works can be found on their collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/7 in 2015.

The fact that Stain never formally attended any art school, does not say much about his quality as an artist. He was drawn to street art and made his first tag when he was only 11. In the beginning, he created a lot of traditional graffiti lettering. Afterward he experimented with various techniques, shaped his style and began exhibiting his work in the 2000. The movies ‘Best Street’ and Style Wars’ along with Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant’s book ‘Subway Art’ had had a great influence on his development. Stain’s work reflects strong social consciousness. He conveys the victory of the human spirit via their struggles and raises a strong message of treating others in the way we would like to be treated, as a message of awareness.
