Lil Wayne born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr is a US rapper and multi award winning platinum selling Hip hop artist. He is most famous for his classic Hip hop tracks and cool Lil Wayne music videos which have become a feature of MTV and all its associated Hip hop channels. In 1997 at 15 years old Lil Wayne joined the Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, B.G and Turk. The Hot Boys first album was entitled “Get It How U Live! And was released the same year followed in 1999 but the groups major label debut “Guerilla Warfare” which reached number1 on the Billboard chart. This classic rap video was directed by Gil Green and was shot in Las Vegas at the Southern Highlands Golf Club and it sees Lil Wayne performing one of his biggest hits to date. The video was premiered on BET`s Access Granted on March 12 2008 and went to number one on TRL on MTV. Lil Waynes solo debut came in 1999 when at 17 he released his debut solo album entitled “Tha Block Is Hot” which featured significant contributions from Hot Boys members. The album went double platinum climbing to number 3 on the Billboard charts. “Tha Block Is Hot” was released as the first single and was accompanied by a typical Lil Wayne music video. The second single “Respect Us” was accompanied by another cool Lil Wayne music video featuring members of the Big Tymers. Lil Wayne’s album debut eventually sold over two million copies. Check out the Lil Wayne music video below for his smash hit song "Got Money" featuring T-Pain which peaked at number 10 on the Billboard charts. The "Got Money" music video was directed by Gil Green who also directed the video for "Lollipop" and was shot in Los Angeles featuring cameo performances from Birdman, Nicki Minaj, Ray J & Shorty Mac. In 2000 Lil Wayne released his follow up album entitled “Lights Out” but this album failed to match the success of the first one though it was eventually certified gold. The lead single entitled “Get Off The Corner” and the accompanying Lil Wayne music video still continued the momentum that was building from his debut album. In 2004 and 2005 Lil Wayne released “Tha Carter” and “Tha Carter II”. “Tha Carter” sold over one million copies in the US and once again Lil Wayne music videos were played extensively on MTV which helped to promote this album. “Tha Carter II” was released in 2005 and went onto sell 2 million copies and to reach number 2 in the Billboard Top 100. Singles including “Fireman”, “Grown Man”, “Hustlers Muzik”, and “Shooters” featuring Robin Thicke which were again promoted with the trademark Lil Wayne music videos. This video was directed by Gil Green and was considered to be a sequel to Birdmans "Money To Blow" music video and features Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and superstar rapper Drake. The next album to be released was entitled “Tha Carter III” in 2008 and this spawned the monster Lil Wayne songs “Lollipop” with its characteristic trademark Lil Wayne music video and “Got Money” featuring T-Pain allowing it sell 2.8 million copies in 2008 making it the biggest selling record of the year. Aside from Lil Waynes phenomenal solo success with “Tha Carter II” he was also featured on many collaborations with others artists such as Akon , T-Pain, Lloyd, Cassie, and Usher who featured Lil Wayne on his “Love In This Club” remix. Check out Lil Wayne featured in Destinys Child`s smash hit song "Soldier" also featuring rapper T.I. The music video for "Soldier" was shot in black and white and was directed by Ray Kay and featured cameo performances from Solange Knowles, Bow Wow, Lloyd, Genuwine and Ice Cube. The video for "Soldier" featuring Lil Wayne was nominated for the "Best Group Video" award at the 2005 MTV Awards.
